I meant to publish this in time for Land Day, but I didn’t meet my own self-imposed deadline. Instead, I worked on a teach-in with my comrades at Culture Workers Against Genocide on land back movements, Palestinian national liberation, police abolition, and Stop Cop City. You can view the live stream on our Instagram.
One thing about my neurodivergence – you think you can do it all, and it’s feasible until you don’t consider a little thing called time. There isn’t enough of it to go around! It happens to me every time — I try to do too many things and can’t finish them all. Somehow, I’m always shocked when it happens. I promise I’m working on it.
Anyway, this is less of a long-form piece and more like an announcement of upcoming long-form pieces. In the coming weeks, I’ll be publishing a set of pieces on settler colonialism. It’ll be a repository of sorts, a place where you, the reader, can dig into alone or in a group setting if you feel called to it. I’m calling the series Cut from the Same Cloth: Blood and Soil, and it will be divided into the following sections:
The creation myths of Settler Colonialism, which will discuss ex nihilo, res nullius, terra nullius, Manifest Destiny, and Frontierism,
The creation myth of Zionism, self-determination, and what self-determination actually is,
Neocolonialism, borderlands, and the ongoing genocides against Indigenous and Black populations across the world,
Settler colonialism and food apartheid.
The first of this series comes out this upcoming Friday, April 5th. In the meantime, I’d like to uplift a couple of calls to action:
There are many fundraisers going around to help families leave Gaza and help Palestinian refugees. Operation Olive Branch has an entire spreadsheet dedicated to helping Palestinians through vetted fundraisers and mutual aid calls. Please check them out, and even if you don’t have the means to give, please amplify!
The global action week for Sudan is coming! From April 13 to April 15th, there are planned actions from London to New York City. If you’re interested in learning more, check out For Sudanese Liberation and Nas Al Sudan for more details as they are announced.
